The Race is On at Vail Resorts - Carry On | Travel + Leisure

We love it when celebrities drop by the T+L offices. And on Wednesday, Olympic and World Cup Champion skier Lindsey Vonn stopped in to tell us about how many pairs of skis she travels with (150), how many days a week she trains in the off-season (6, for several hours each day), and how many eggs she eats to fuel her workouts (a lot).

But the gold medalist didn?t come to the snowless east coast just to talk training. Lindsey?s also involved in a cool new program with Vail Resorts, and she brought along the company?s CEO, Rob Katz, to announce EpicMix Racing.

EpicMix is the on-mountain social media experience that Vail Resorts launched two ski seasons ago that changed the face of this sport. Last year, the company added photos?professionally taken and easily shared on Facebook and Twitter?an effort that won the company a SMITTY Award from T+L for innovation in social media in travel.

In the 3.0 version, skiers will be able to race against Lindsey?virtually, of course, since she?ll be out on tour, eating more eggs and winning more skiing titles. Just bomb down one of the racing courses (which will be set up on intermediate slopes) and compare your time to Lindsey?s. Since none of us are going to beat her, there will be a ?seconds behind Lindsey? score. Fortunately, it?ll be adjusted for age, gender, and discipline, so those of us who don?t professionally train six days a week won?t get too discouraged.

But if you?re really good, you could end up competing against other top EpicMix racers at Beaver Creek next April, an event that will be hosted by Lindsey herself. No word on which of her 150 pairs of skis she?ll be using that day.
