New Findings in Prostate Cancer | TopNews United States

During a study, a team of researchers from Edinburgh University has come across genes which determine the growth of prostate cancer. The researchers are of the view that their findings can improve the treatment of prostate cancer.

One gene out of them has been identified as Decorin. It was found that in tumors, the Decorin gene was limited in number. The study was funded by the Prostate Cancer UK and the Medical Research Council (MRC).

The lead researcher of the study, Dr. Axel Thomson was reported saying, ?We pinpointed which genes were active in embryonic prostate development and compared their behaviour in the development of prostate cancer?.

The researchers further noted that the presence of Decorin in the prostate tumor can help in reducing or slowing down the growth of the cancer in the body. It is hoped that the findings can help in inventing effective treatment for prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is a common cancer among men. It affects millions of life all over the world. In Britain, every year, about 10,000 men lose their life to prostate cancer. The findings are potential of improving the quality of life of cancer patients.
