Amazing Animation - The Purbeck School

?Animation offers a medium of storytelling and visual entertainment which can bring pleasure and information to people of all ages everywhere in the world.?? Walt Disney

The Purbeck School Art and ICT Department collaborated to bring students an ICT-ART Animation Keynote Speech at Purbeck School and Workshop with Industry Specialists at The World Leading Arts University Bournemouth.

Students and staff were lucky enough to meet professionals with extensive industry experience.

Paul Hilton, Tutor on the Animation Production BA at AUB and Purbeck School Alumni, came into The Purbeck School to give a Keynote speech on careers in animation and creative Arts. ?Students were introduced to animation and able to view the beautiful work created by Paul and recent graduates of The Arts University College Bournemouth. ?Students had a chance to find out about the opportunities available in Industry, what skills they need and what studying on a Animation degree might be like. ?Paul, answered questions and discussed our students work individually. ??It was inspiring to see such amazing work? said Lewis from Year 11 ?and I loved the free DVD?.

Animation Workshop

A small team of Art and ICT students built on this experience by working in the University studios, creating their own animations in a day. ?Guided by Richard Haynes and Zoe, a second year animation student, our students had superb tuition and created diverse and creative work.

Our 6th form students remarked how useful it was to experience being at university for the day. ?Several students mentioned that working as a team and meeting new people was really stimulating, and learning in a new environment was refreshing.

Richard Haynes from AUCB commented on the fantastic technical, creative and collaborative skills demonstrated the students.? As they developed new ideas or explored the themes they are developing in the developing in their? BTEC and Fine Art A level Courses.

As Nick Park says Animation allows you to ?Stop-motion lets you build tiny little worlds, and computers make that world even more believable?. ?Purbeck Students demonstrated fantastic ICT and Creative skills as they created beautiful, strange and fantastic worlds, from the beastly in Jack?s Classroom Chaos, the hilarious adventures of a Hungry Cow,? to the day flew and as we quickly saved all the animations our students reflected on the experience.

Jack Hershaw in Year 12 summed it up for us all:

?It was brilliant to go out and have the opportunity to work with the great equipment, staff and students at the university.?? To do something and learn something completely new. ?It was great working with the University staff and students, I absolutely loved it?.

The students are now left with the challenge of editing and completing their animations to?Premi?re?them to Purbeck School Students. ?Something for us all to look forward to.
