Grant work to eliminate biofilm, zebra mussels

A UT Arlington environmental engineer has been awarded a $394,300 grant from the Tarrant Regional Water District to ensure water quality and flow in the new facilities of the 150-mile Integrated Pipeline Project.

Andrew Kruzic, UT Arlington associate professor of civil engineering, will investigate the best methods and locations to add monochloramine to the water in an effort to eliminate biological growths in the new pump stations and pipelines. Adding monochloramine is widely practiced throughout the United States.

Biological growth decreases the flow rate in the pipelines and increase the cost to deliver the water.

The monochloramines will be removing biofilm and invasive species, such as the zebra mussels, that have infested some North Texas lakes. Kruzic also will study how to inhibit internal corrosion, and recommend locations along the pipeline for water treatment.

"As North Texas builds the $2.3 billion, 150-mile pipeline from Lake Palestine in East Texas to Tarrant County, the builders have to ensure what they're getting will be as efficient and last as long as possible," Kruzic said. "We want to make sure the pipeline is flowing as much water as possible to North Texas."

The first portion of the pipeline is scheduled to be operational by 2021 and will deliver up to 350 million gallons of raw water per day to North Texas. The Tarrant Regional Water District and Dallas Water Utilities are teaming together for the project. TRWD has 70 customer cities. DWU has 27 customer cities. Together, the two providers supply water to more than 4.4 million people in 13 North Texas counties.

"Dr. Kruzic's research is necessary to help us operate the pipeline efficiently, while also meeting the targeted project-life of 100 years," said David Marshall, engineering services director for the Tarrant Regional Water District. "The Integrated Pipeline Project is critical to ensuring water supplies to support long term growth in North Texas."

Currently, water utilities rely on monochloramine, a combination of chloride and ammonia, to disinfect and protect water supplies from disease-causing microorganisms, Kruzic said.

Kruzic is teaming with Kevin Schug, a UT Arlington associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry, in the research. Schug also is the Shimadzu Distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry. His work is based in the Shimadzu Center for Advanced Analytical Chemistry at UT Arlington. The research will rely on one of Shimadzu's chemical analysis machines.

Kruzic also said that he will serve as a consultant to the Tarrant Regional Water District to choose instrumentation for chemical and environmental monitoring on the pipeline. Finally, part of the grant calls for Kruzic to help incorporate the research results into final design for the pipeline.

Khosrow Behbehani, dean of the UT Arlington College of Engineering, said Dr. Kruzic's work is vital to ensure continued growth in North Texas.

"This pipeline can get needed water resources to North Texas," Behbehani said. "Dr. Kruzic's research will have long-lasting impact on providing safe water for current and future North Texas residents and businesses. His methods and procedures certainly could be used by future projects involving large volumes of water."

HOUSTON (AP) ? Kevin Durant texted Kevin Martin after his terrible performance in Game 5 to send words of encouragement, and tell him he knew Martin would bounce back on Friday night.

Durant couldn't have been more right, and the Oklahoma City Thunder are advancing in the NBA playoffs.

Durant scored 27 points and Martin added 25 to lead the Thunder to a 103-94 victory over the Houston Rockets, sending them to the second round for the third straight season.

The Thunder will host Memphis on Sunday afternoon.

Martin, who joined the Thunder in the trade for James Harden, rebounded from a tough Game 5. He missed his first nine shots Wednesday and finished with three points. Things were much difference in Game 6, when he had 21 points by halftime.

"I had faith that he was going to come out and be aggressive and have a really good game," Durant said of Martin. "He's a big-time scorer. He carried us in that first half when I was struggling."

The Rockets were looking to become just the fourth team in NBA history to force a Game 7 after trailing 3-0.

But the Thunder opened the fourth quarter with a big run to take the lead and cruise to the victory.

Martin finally gave the Thunder someone to take scoring pressure off Durant for the first time since All-Star guard Russell Westbrook had season-ending knee surgery. He had 21 points by halftime and Westbrook's replacement, Reggie Jackson, helped out by scoring 17.

"It was just coming in there, trying to set a tone," Martin said. "The last 48 hours after Game 5, I couldn't even look my teammates in the eye because I felt so bad. It was going in there and playing like I have been in my career and jump-starting us to a victory."

Jackson also had seven rebounds, eight assists and just two turnovers.

"That was one of our best Thunder team wins that we've had all season," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "The guys really laid everything on the line, and that's what playoff basketball is all about. That's what team basketball is all about, and I liked the guys' commitment to helping each other out."

Durant, who also had eight rebounds and six assists, likes the way the team has grown in the four games since Westbrook was injured.

"It's making us stronger," he said of dealing with adversity. "We definitely had to come together. We struggled at times, but that's all part of the journey."

Harden, who the Rockets said had strep throat on Thursday, led Houston with 26 points.

Oklahoma City used a 14-4 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter to take a 92-81 lead. Derek Fisher and Durant both hit 3-pointers in that stretch. Houston missed six shots, including two layups, and had two turnovers as the Thunder built the lead.

Harden made a 3-pointer after that, but Fisher stole the ball from him on the next possession and Durant finished with an exclamation-point dunk, and Houston didn't threaten after that.

"We were just stagnant and from there on out we couldn't get any movement and really couldn't get any shots off," Harden said.

Brooks said the importance of Fisher to his team couldn't be overstated.

"He has made our team better," Brooks said. "His spirit of doing it every day is something all teams should strive for. What I saw tonight was some of the most inspired play I've ever seen as a player and as a coach."

Fisher finished with 11 points, four rebounds and two steals.

The Rockets' plan of double- and triple-teaming Durant and daring someone else to beat them worked in the previous two games as they cut the deficit to 3-2. On Friday, Martin knocked down shot after shot and had outscored Durant by 12 points by halftime.

Houston got 25 points from Chandler Parsons, while Omer Asik had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

"I'm at a loss for words right now," Houston's Patrick Beverley said. "My mind is set to play Game 7. It's frustrating right now."

Houston opened the third quarter with a barrage of 3-pointers. Francisco Garcia sank one to start the period and Parsons hit three more to help the Rockets build a 68-62 lead with about 7 1/2 minutes left in the quarter.

The Rockets pushed the lead to 10 points a couple of minutes later before Jackson scored five quick points to get Oklahoma City within 72-67.

That was the beginning of a 10-2 spurt for the Thunder that helped them tie it at 74 on a putback by Durant with about three minutes remaining in the quarter. Oklahoma City led 78-77 entering the fourth quarter.

Oklahoma City limited Houston to 23 points in the third period Friday after allowing the Rockets to score 38 and 37 points, respectively, in the third quarters of the last two games.

Houston was playing without key reserve Carlos Delfino, who has a bone fracture in his right foot that will require surgery.

Jeremy Lin didn't start, but played for the first time since Game 3. He entered with about 2 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter. He had missed the last two games with a bruised chest muscle.

He had just three points.

Houston led by five points late in the first quarter before Oklahoma City used a 12-2 run to take a 36-31 lead about nine minutes before halftime. Fisher and Martin made consecutive 3s to cap that run.

Martin made a pair of free throws to finish his big first half before Harden swished a 3-pointer to cut Oklahoma City's lead to 58-54 at halftime.

Things got testy early, with Garcia and Kendrick Perkins pushing each other after a foul by Garcia and each getting technical fouls in the first quarter. Garcia simmered down pretty quickly, but Perkins had to be pulled away by teammates.

After things settled down, Perkins inexplicably dropped to the court and did several push-ups.

Another scuffle just before halftime resulted in technicals on both Asik and Durant.

NOTES: The game drew a sold-out crowd of 18,357. ... Parsons scored more than 25 points for his second straight game. ... Martin came one point shy of his career high for points in the playoffs of 26. ... The Thunder went 16 for 16 from the free throw line.

92% Jurassic Park: An IMAX 3D Experience

All Critics (98) | Top Critics (24) | Fresh (99) | Rotten (8) | DVD (39)

The enthralling man-vs.-nature parable based on the late Michael Crichton's best-selling novel hasn't aged one bit.

The 3-D process adds not just dimension but depth - a technological extension of cinematographer Gregg Toland's deep-focus innovations in The Grapes of Wrath and Citizen Kane. The change in perspective creates greater intensity.

I'm a fan of this movie. It is thrilling, and the 3-D treatment is a nice enhancement.

This movie doesn't just stand the test of time, it transcends it.

"Jurassic Park" remains an absolute thrill from a Spielberg in top form: Funny, scary, fast-moving and full of just-right details.

"Jurassic Park" was impressive in 1993. Twenty years later, it's flawless.

Jurassic Park is a how-to guide for structuring a multi-character disaster film.

Still proves as thrilling as ever.

A classic gets even better.

Steven Spielbeg's 1993 tale of an island plagued dinosaurs running amok holds up surprisingly well in the special effects category.

The film is a classic and the chance to see it on the big screen again (or for the first time) should not be missed

Sentiment is explained by science as the family impulse that motivates so many Steven Spielberg stories is revealed to be an evolutionary imperative in this near-perfect action-adventure.

[Looks] better not only than effects-driven movies of the same period, but better, frankly, than half of what gets released nowadays.

Kids who love dinosaurs will love it. And who doesn't?

confirms both Spielberg's mastery of cinematic thrills and the comparatively empty bombast of today's summer tentpole movies, even the better ones.

Jurassic Park shows us a director in transition, and the film captures his transformation in its own kind of cinematic amber.

[The] 3D [conversion] provides the definitive version of this classic film. Jurassic Park has been transformed with with artistry, nuance and sophistication, and it's an absolute must-see during this brief run.

The 3D effects had me nearly jumping out of my seat. Some say Hollywood is converting too many old films to 3D. But, "Jurassic Park" was the perfect choice. There's nothing more fun than sharing a seat with a snapping dinosaur.

Spielberg treats us as he does his characters, leading us into a strange land and expecting us to make it out with all our faculties intact; it's a tall order, given the heart-stopping, bloodcurdling, limbs-numbing excitement packed into the second hour.

It is as if time has passed the movie by. "Jurassic Park" remains solid entertainment, but the awe and wonder have faded.

The thrill of seeing live dinosaurs on screen is not as acute today as it was 20 years ago admittedly, but there is still some 3D awe left in the creations that roared 65 billion years ago...

The 3D isn't pushed on the audience, but it does reveal the amount of depth that Spielberg actually put into the film 20 years ago.

While it's not the most profound of Spielberg's works or the most entertaining from a popcorn perspective, it's one of the most technically flawless movies he's ever produced.

Jurassic Park 3D is like being reunited with an old friend; an old friend that wants to eat you and maul you to death, but still. A classic is reborn in glorious IMAX with a vibrantly stunning use of 3D.

If releasing the film in 3-D is the only way to get it back in theaters, then the gimmick is an acceptable addition. The 3-D is good. But when a movie is this near flawless, nothing is needed to make it better.

The 3D conversion ruins everything, like the comet that killed the dinosaurs, making Jurassic Park the rare amusement I'd prefer to revisit at home.

>>> three additional suspects have been taken into custody.

>> the fbi took into custody three additional people.

>> they were roommates.

>> two of the people are here on student visas.

>> ages 19 and 20.

>> suspected of removing evidence after the bombing.

>> what they are accused of doing is taking things.

>> at least two of them expected to be in court.

>> they are accused in obstruction of justice and making false statement.

>> destroying, concealing and covering up a laptop computer .

>> a missing laptop.

>> they take a backpack filled with fireworks and throw it in the trash.

>> that's what the charges are about.

>> i think he's there.

>> this morning we are learning about the events in boston that led the police to is suspects.

>> my body was shaking. i was worried it would come back to me.

>> he said he will testify in open court .

>> there's a lot we need to learn here.

>> it is a fluid situation.

>> this is the beginning of a long process.

>>> tonight, three more people now face federal criminal charges in the boston marathon bombing according to a complaint. die as cad ra b -- two it by knowingly destroying, concealing and covering up objects belonging to dzhokhar tsarnaev, mainly a backpack with a computer. impede and obstruct. a third man, robel feliphillipos. all three men are friends of bombing suspect dzhokhar tsarnaev and began attending the university in dart mouth. don't worry about my pronunciation. they are nationals of -- they were taken on student visa violations for not regularly attending classes. they shared an apartment in new bedford, massachusetts. they went to dzhokhar tsarnaev's apartment and removed a backpack with fireworks and a jar of vaseline. they watched news report that is featured photographs of a man later identified as dzhokhar tsarnaev and identified the guys as a suspect. they then collectively decided to throw the fireworks into the trash because they did not want tsarnaev to get in trouble. all three had their hearing in court today.

>> he did not know that this individual was involved in the bombing. his first inkling came much later. the government allegations as far as seeing a photo and recognizing him. immediately we dispute. he did not know the items were involved in a bombing or of any value.

>> my client feels horrible and was shocked to hear that someone he knew at the university of massachusetts was involved with the boston marathon bombing, just like many other individuals interviewed on campus. he's cooperated fully with the authorities and looks forward to the truth coming out in this case.

>> my client is not charged with helping the suspect in any way what so ever before or after and he had no knowledge of the incident and as to the actual charge, misrepresentation of the other two individuals did or did not do. we'll look forward to litigating that in court.

>> joining me now is nbc news justice corporate pete williams and james cavanagh , an msnbc analyst. pete , thank you for being here on the first night of pronouncing the new names. i'm going to need your help. pete , i want to go to the lawyers, first of all, representing the new defendants. are they court appointed lawyers? what do we know about how they got their lawyers?

>> no, they are private counsel. some representing the two on immigration, which has arisen a couple days ago when they were picked up. there was a question about their student visas. the fact is the fbi has been trying to figure out what happened here for several days now. as i understand, the sequence of events here. after tsarnaev is arrested on friday night and after the shootout in waterford, they get his cell phone and look back for the record of his cell phones and texts. he's texts several of these individuals. two, they talked to dzhokhar tsarnaev's actual roommate who tells them the story about these men coming in and taking something out. so that got them on to the trail. they have been questioning the men and trying to figure this out. they, you know, discovered the backpack was thrown away. they find it in the landfill five days ago. the actual backpack. the picture you showed with the fireworks in it came from the fbi from the backpack they have thrown away. the counselors are not court appointed. they are regular, private counsel.

>> one person in the clear as of tonight in the investigation was dzhokhar's actual roommate.

>> yes. there's no suggestion here he had anything to do with this. we should say at some point there's no allegation here by the fbi . these three men charged today had anything to do with the bombing itself or were involved in planning or executing it this entire charge has to do with what they did afterwards. what they did after the fbi released the pictures of the two bombing suspects on a thursday night. it's later that evening they go to dzhokhar tsarnaev's dorm room , take the backpack away. the fbi was suspicious he was involved. one texted him and said he look like one of the suspects. he responded lol come to my room and take anything you want. they go to the room and take the backpack out. the next morning, as they are watching the news accounts and the names come out about tamerlan and dzhokhar tsarnaev, they decide to throw the backpack away.

>> on this point of the texting, the fbi is not alleging, it sounds like, that this was a coordinated thing that dzhokhar was saying to them, go to this, i need you to throw that stuff away.

>> correct. according to the court documents, he never says i need you to go to my dorm room , get the backpack and take it away. there's an implied invitation, come to my room and take anything umt. it also says they consider it a joke. then they go to the room and find the backpack. that's when, according to the fbi , says one of them knew, at that point, is the term the fbi uses, knew that tsarnaev was involved in the bombing. you heard the lawyer for one of the defendants who says no. he says no, they did not think they were taking evidence directly related to the bombing out of the dorm room . why they were taking it out, he doesn't say.

>> james cavanagh , you have worked investigations like this. you came across this package of evidence, the texts and then the knowledge that these people went to the dorm room , what they did, the roommate tells you this is what they did with that stuff. they got rid of it. what do you make of this evidence as it's gathered now in this case?

>> well, they made a clear choice, lawrence . remember, you have to add in the other facts and complaints. dzhokhar told at least one of the brothers a month before he knew how to make bombs. they saw the photographs, got the texts from dzhokhar, take anything out of my room. you look like the bomber, lol. they decided they knew that dzhokhar was one of the bombers. they made an active criminal choice to obstruct justice, go in there and get the backpack as pete described, the fireworks. the evidence in there, vaseline and other materials and his laptop, which would be significant evidence to stop another attack. these guys had left with other bombs. taking a laptop is serious. agents would want to get in there and see if there's another attack. they obstructed justice. it's serious.

>> james, when you say, based on what we know about the case and what you know about the frame of the case, what they did in that dorm room was actually remove the most valuable possible material in there for investigators.

>> exactly. the laptop, lawrence , mike reported he talked to one of the counsels for the defendant. they told mike they turned the laptop over to the fbi . you know, that solves the question, the laptop wasn't in the backpack, but turned over to the fbi . they have already swept it, i'm sure.

>> one other thing, the fbi claims in the charging documents that the reason they took the laptop was, and i'm just going to tell you what it says. you can decide the logic on your own. according to the complaint, they didn't want to roommate suspicious they were only taking the backpack, so they took the laptop, too. that's their claim.

>> what type of penalties do they face in these charges?

>> this is not the end of the game. the government can come back with more charges. this is the opening move by the government. as they learn more, they can add more. the obstruction count is a maximum of five years. lying to federal agent count against phillipos carry as maximum eight year sentence. there may be more charges down the road.

>> thank you both for your guidance tonight.

>> you bet.

>> thanks, lawrence .

FBI seeks data on 3 in Benghazi attack

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The FBI announced Wednesday that it is seeking information on three people who were on the grounds of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, when it was attacked last year.

The bureau posted photographs of the three people and said they may be able to provide information to help in the investigation of the attack.

"We need your help to solve this crime," the FBI said in releasing the photographs.

The attack on the Benghazi compound on Sept. 11, 2012, killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.

In a posting on the FBI's website, the law enforcement agency urged anyone with information to text or e-mail BenghaziTips(at)ic.fbi.gov or to submit information confidentially at https://forms.fbi.gov/benghazi-en .

Congressional Republicans are continuing to pepper the Obama administration with questions about the attack.

Chinese management talent - Business Insider

China's economy, and the number of big global businesses with a presence there, has absolutely exploded over the past decade ? but the number of executives with local experience and global chops hasn't kept up.

The result is a large and growing shortage of local executive talent. ?

A job posting encountered by the FT's Andrew Hill highlights how big the problem is. A Shenzhen-based company wanted a candidate who was:

  • Fluent in Mandarin
  • Able to communicate in fluent, idiomatic English with superiors in Europe or the United States
  • Completely comfortable with Chinese business culture
  • Already embedded in China, but willing to relocate at any time.
  • Familiar with both local consumer habits and big global trends

That's quite a list. And there simply aren't many people that fit the bill.

Hill spoke to?Katherine Xin, a management professor at Shanghai's China Europe International Business School, who estimated that the number of mainland Chinese executives capable of competing at the highest levels of global business is "in the low thousands only."

So on one side, you have Chinese companies trying to grow outside their own borders, and international companies trying to access the massive Chinese market. The result is a massive talent crunch, and a high poach rate.?

The competition is so fierce that some companies are reluctant to spend the time or money on training local talent abroad, because they expect them to be poached.?

Importing expatriates is far from ideal, and even Taiwanese, Hong Kong based, or returning Chinese emigres can take a long time to understand or adapt to the mainland.

Until Chinese business education dramatically improves or companies significantly invest in management training, there's going to be a shortage.?

As much as a problem as this is for Chinese companies and global companies active in China, it's also a huge opportunity for people willing to commit to a career in the country.?

Will Chael Sonnen hang it up for good after UFC 159 loss to Jon Jones?

Minutes after losing by TKO to UFC light heavyweight Jon Jones, Chael Sonnen indicated his fighting days may be over.

"I'm not going to be one of the guys to hang around. If there's not a road to the title, then this sport isn't for me. I believe that was probably my last opportunity," Sonnen said to UFC commentator Joe Rogan.

He didn't specifically say "I'm retiring," but he did talk about the end of the road. This seems like more than the emotional ramblings of a fighter after a bad loss. B.J. Penn threatened retirement several times before it stuck. Nick Diaz has retired and unretired plenty of times.

Retirement wouldn't be out of the question. He's 36 years old and has fought in 40 fights after a long career as an amateur and collegiate wrestler.

If he does decide to retire, don't expect him to play shuffleboard and take up gardening. He already works as a commentator for Fox's broadcasts. During the last season of "The Ultimate Fighter," he proved to be a capable coach. Retirement would not mean Sonnen was done with MMA.

Sonnen talked his way into a title shot with Jones just months after he dropped a title shot to Anderson Silva at middleweight. Deserved or not, Sonnen has had several chances to win the UFC belt, and he hasn't won any of them. Not many fighters get more chances than he has. If the belt is the only thing that's important, why not retire?

Man stabs choir members during closing hymns at New Mexico church, police say

By Daniel Arkin, Staff Writer, NBC News

At least four people were stabbed at an Albuquerque, N.M., church when a man went on a rampage during?a Sunday?service?s closing hymns, police said.

Albuquerque Police Department officials say the unidentified suspect with a weapon leaped over pews and lunged at members of the choir just before noon on Sunday. He repeatedly stabbed choir members, according to police.

Police officers dispatched to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish discovered that several parishioners had?pinned the suspect to the floor, according to police spokesperson Tasia Martinez.

?The scene was chaotic when officers arrived and it was quickly ascertained that numerous parishioners essentially jumped on the male offender and held him down until officers arrived,? Martinez said.

Officials have the suspect in custody. Officials said they have determined that the assailant was not a parishioner at the church but have not determined a motive for the attack.

The four stabbing victims all sustained non-life threatening injuries and were being treated at local hospitals, according to authorities. Officials have not yet released the names of the victims.

Law enforcement officials and the Albuquerque Fire Department plan to release more information about the incident late Sunday.

Israel responds to Gaza rocket fire with airstrike

JERUSALEM (AP) ? Israel responded to rockets fired from the Gaza Strip with airstrikes on sites used by Islamic militant group Hamas, which rules the Palestinian territory, the military said on Sunday.

It said its jets struck "a terrorist weapon storage facility and a Hamas training installation" after rockets landed in southern Israel the night before. It also closed a closed a key border crossing with the territory. Gaza health officials said nobody was hurt in the strikes.

On Saturday, thousands of Israelis had been outside in parks and forests celebrating the Jewish holiday of Lag Baomer with traditional bonfires. The rockets exploded in open areas and caused no injuries.

Rocket fire from Gaza has declined since a military campaign in November, before which militants were firing rockets on an almost daily basis and launching other attacks on Israeli towns across the border. Sporadic fire still persists however.

The military said it "will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli civilians" and that it will not allow the situation to return to where it stood before the November campaign.

Israel holds Gaza's militant Hamas rulers responsible for all attacks from the territory. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said after the attack that the perpetrators will "pay a heavy price." Speaking at a government meeting Sunday, Netanyahu said he will "not allow a policy of sporadic fire" to continue. He said such fire will be met with a "very strong" response.

No group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

A shadowy extremist Muslim Salafi group has been behind recent attacks in the area, including one last month where rockets were fired from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

Hamas sees the Salafis as a threat to its rule and routinely arrest members of the ultraconservative movement in Gaza. Salafis view even Hamas's hardline interpretation of Islamic law as too moderate and the two groups have clashed violently in the past.

Along with the airstrikes, Israel responded to Saturday's rocket fire by closing the Kerem Shalom crossing with Gaza. It said another terminal will be open for humanitarian cases.

Samsung to block access to app store in Iran

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) ? Iranian users of Samsung mobile applications said Thursday that the company had notified them that they will no longer have access to the company's online store as of May 22.

The move is seen as part of international sanctions on the country over its disputed nuclear program. The West has imposed banking and insurance sanctions on Iran since it suspects Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran denies.

At a Tehran shopping mall, owners of mobile phones and tablets said Thursday that they had received the message via email from the company late the night before. Retailers said they had no power over the decision.

"We have heard about it, but we are only responsible for hardware here, not software and apps," shopkeeper Bijan Ashtiani said.

In the message, Samsung said that it cannot provide access to the store, known as Samsung Apps, in Iran because of "legal barriers." It apologized to customers in emailed statement seen by the Associated Press on Thursday.

Samsung's offices in Tehran could not be immediately reached for comment due to the weekend there, and its headquarters in South Korea did not immediately respond to a request.

The decision quickly provoked ire on social media.

"Samsung is to stop its apps in Iran, oh how we appreciate our officials," wrote Bahareh, a Twitter user blaming Tehran's policy. Another, named Armin, pointed at the technology giant itself, saying: "Now, Samsung's sanctions honor us as well!"

Samsung spokesman Chris Jung in Seoul declined to comment.

Unlike Apple, Microsoft and Adobe, Samsung has provided localized services to Iranians in their native Persian language. In 2012, Finnish communications giant Nokia stopped its services in the country.
